The Zentralkokerei Saar GmbH (ZKS), based in Dillingen / Saar, has existed under company law since 1981. The purpose of the company is to operate a coking plant and the associated production of coke and coke by-products. The shareholders are Dillinger Hütte and Saarstahl AG.

The company was created as a result of the concentration of pig iron production for the Saarland steel industry, which can be traced back to the steel crisis . In 1981 Saarstahl and Dillinger Hütte decided to jointly produce pig iron using blast furnaces only at the Dillingen / Saar location and founded the ROGESA Roheisengesellschaft Saar for this purpose . The central coking plant Saar was founded as a joint venture between Saarstahl, Dillinger Hütte and Saarbergwerke AG to supply the blast furnaces with coke .

Today's shareholders of the central coking plant in Saar are the companies Saarstahl and Dillinger Hütte, which are interlinked via SHS - Stahl-Holding-Saar . Since the Fürstenhausen coking plant was closed , the Saar central coking plant has been the central coking plant for the Saarland steel industry.

Basic data

The Saar central coking plant currently operates two coke oven batteries with a capacity of around 1.2 million tons of coke per year.

The coke produced by the company is used exclusively in the blast furnaces of the sister company Rogesa. The by-products of the coke oven (including benzene ) are available on the open market.

The central coking plant in Saar does not have its own employees, as the Dillinger Hütte AG is responsible for the management of the company. Sales for 2011 amounted to 364 million euros. In 2011 around 1,022,000 tons of coke were produced.
