The Center Wald-Forst-Holz Weihenstephan , which is located in the northern part of the Freising-Weihenstephan campus , is a forestry competence center with partners from the Faculty of Forest Science and Resource Management at the Technical University of Munich , the Faculty of Forest and Forestry from the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences and the Bavarian State Institute for Forests and forestry as a special authority of the Bavarian Forest Administration . The center aims to bundle competencies and resources in research, teaching, advice and knowledge transfer and to release synergy effects .

organization

The Weihenstephan Forest-Forest-Wood Center is an institutional cooperation. In the cooperation agreement dated May 8, 2003, the three partners agreed to work together.

The steering committee of the center is the coordination council, which consists of two members from each of the three partners. Its chairman is the head of the center. The position of the head changes every two years between the partner institutions. An office headed by a managing director takes on central management and support tasks and implements the decisions of the coordination council.

The Förderverein Zentrum Wald-Forst-Holz Weihenstephan eV is a non-profit association for the promotion of forest research, the transfer of knowledge into practice and the dissemination of forest knowledge in society. The aim of the association is to support forums in which scientists, practitioners and laypeople can exchange ideas on forest-related topics and where practical knowledge needs are determined.

tasks

As the central point of contact in the field of forest, forest and wood, the Weihenstephan Forest-Forest-Wood Center forms the interface between science and practice and bundles forest research at the Freising-Weihenstephan university location . In this way, cooperation within the three partner institutions and external facilities in the forest sector is promoted and joint research projects can be initiated and coordinated.

The Weihenstephan Forest-Forest-Wood Center determines and answers questions from practice and then communicates the scientific results obtained to industry and the general public.

With the results of research and continuous surveys, the forest center aims to contribute to climate protection , the avoidance of forest damage , sustainable forestry, silviculture and forest planning, timber harvesting , logistics and timber marketing, wildlife ecology , to solving business issues and forest policy .

aims

The results from the interdisciplinary and scientific basic research from practice can flow into teaching and be useful in advice. One advantage is that the knowledge and resources of the three forestry institutions are bundled and can thus contribute more effectively to sustainable and future-oriented forest management. Further goals of the forest center are to sensitize politicians and the public to the forest sector and to establish it as a central point of contact for all questions about forest, forest and wood for all relevant target groups. The network is also intended to improve external impact and avoid duplicate research.
