The DiZ - Center for University Didactics is a joint scientific institution of the Bavarian universities of applied sciences (formerly universities of applied sciences) according to Art. 16 Para. 3 BayHSchG. It was set up in Kempten in 1996 - at that time as an authority directly subordinate to the Bavarian State Ministry for Science, Research and Art - and has been in Ingolstadt since October 2004 in the building of the former university ("High School").

The purpose of this facility is the continuous improvement of teaching at all Bavarian universities of applied sciences (HaW). Existing efforts in university didactics should be bundled, coordinated and made available to everyone. At the same time, the DiZ is also intended to provide new impulses for the optimization and further development of teaching at universities: The Bavarian HaW stand for applied research and practice-oriented teaching that follows the current state of university didactics. The aim of ensuring the highest quality, especially in teaching, connects the Bavarian universities of applied sciences. In addition to applied research, the quality of teaching is the decisive distinguishing feature of universities. To this end, they created the DiZ as a joint scientific institution.

The tasks of the DiZ are accordingly

  • didactic training for teachers
  • Consulting services on topics related to the design of teaching in accordance with the current needs of the universities
  • Services related to university teaching
  • Publications (especially DiNa magazine and regular newsletters on practice in didactics at universities)
  • Applied research for the further development of university didactics, the DiZ and universities

The DiZ is available to all full-time lecturers, employees with teaching tasks as well as lecturers of the Bavarian HaWs, their faculties, specific functionaries (e.g. dean and dean of studies, course director). The costs incurred are borne by the Ministry of Science and the universities.

The annual program offer includes

  • special courses for newly appointed professors (four days of university didactics, one day of legal questions),
  • Didactics and similar working groups (one and two days),
  • Advanced training courses on the various subject areas of the Bavarian University Teaching Certificate,
  • an intensive English language course in Cambridge (3 weeks).
  • In addition, the DiZ organizes a conference each year for the dean of studies and the dean
  • there are also 8 to 12 in-house seminars ordered by the universities on site
  • and every two years the "Forum of Teaching" takes place, where the state teaching prizes of the Minister of Science are presented (1 day, approx. 250 tln.)

A total of around 150 advanced training events are held each year, mostly in the didactics center, but some at the member universities. The didactic center has around 1,500 course participants in the seminars and working groups every year.
