Center for Journalism

The Center for Journalism ( Danish Center for Journalistik ) of the University of South Denmark is located at the Institute for Political Science of the Faculty of Social Sciences. It is located on Odense University Campus on the Danish island of Funen and offers research and training in journalism . The center has about 310 students in the bachelor's degree and about 200 students in the master's degree (status: 2010). In addition, around 35 scientists and teachers research and teach there. The director of the center is Peter Bro.

The University of South Denmark, like the University of Roskilde , established a journalism course in 1998 in response to the political decision to break the monopoly of the Danish School of Journalism for the training of journalists in Denmark in order to increase the diversity within the field of journalism. Since its inception, the center has made a name for itself with several innovations, including: a. with the journalist award “The journalistic scholarship”, as well as with the introduction of a journalist's oath based on the model of the doctor's vow .

In addition to training at bachelor's and master's level, it also offers professional training and a minor subject that can be combined with a major in the humanities or social sciences .

The highest body of the Center is the  Executive Board that the chief editor of the daily newspaper Fyens Stiftstidende is directed by Westergård.

The students publish the newspaper Lixen .
