The Center for Performance Studies of the University of Bremen under the direction of Jörg Holkenbrink is a university institute that offers the combination of an artistic qualification in the field of research theater with a scientific education in various courses.

concept

The students not only get to know performative strategies and methods, but also to apply them to the entirety of their subjects, so that a constant oscillation between science and art is required and promoted. The concept of the training shows a relationship to the concept of performance studies established by Richard Schechner in the USA and less to the concept of German theater studies . The students not only examine performative methods, but also examine scientific content with the help of performative working methods. The center of the Center for Performance Studies is the attached Theater of the Assembly between Education, Science and Art (TdV), which examines scientific topics with the means of the performative arts. On this basis, productions are developed within the course that are also very popular outside of Bremen. Since 2005, the Center for Performance Studies has also offered the first partial qualification for the school subject of performing games in the state of Bremen , which incorporates many approaches from the investigative forms of theater work developed here.
