History and description

Zeughausallee is a historically documented name. The Zeughausallee leads from today's Kranichsteiner Straße , past the Jagdzeugmeisterhaus , to the free space in front of the Jagdzeughaus and via today's footpath directly to the southeast corner of the Backhausteich and across the west embankment of the pond to the Kranichstein hunting lodge .

The Zeughausallee was lined with trees. Some of the old trees are still standing; especially the one behind the Jagdzeugmeisterhaus.

The landgraves and their servants chose the apparently awkward approach to the hunting lodge for two reasons: On the one hand, the path led past the picturesque castle pond - the Backhaus pond - directly into the castle courtyard and, on the other hand, this path was passable even in bad weather; when the lower, north-western approach to the castle was flooded.

Monument protection

The Zeughausallee is a cultural monument for architectural and city-historical reasons .
