Zhang Tingyu

Zhang Tingyu ( Chinese : 張廷玉; Wade-Giles : Chang Ting-yü; honorary name Hengchen衡 臣; * 1672 ; † 1755 ) was a Han Chinese politician in the Qing dynasty .

Born in Tongcheng , Anhui Province , Zhang Tingyu passed the imperial exams and entered the civil service under Emperor Kangxi in 1699 . There he served initially as State Secretary, later under Yongzheng as Prime Minister and member of the State Council. He played a central role in court politics and is considered the architect of numerous political projects. Finally, during the Qianlong period, he was significantly involved in the Sino-Manchurian conflict by being the informal leader of the former party. Zhang was valued for his integrity as well as his loyalty to principles.

His literary talent enabled him to write the history of the Ming (Mingshi 明 史) and to publish it in 1739.
