Zhang Youdai

Zhang Youdai ( Chinese  张 有待 , * in Beijing ) is a Chinese DJ and music producer . He is considered to be one of the pioneers of DJ culture in China and is primarily dedicated to the spread of rock music , jazz and electronic music . His stage name is "YouDai", a play on words with his name; Youdai means "the one with the cassette".

biography

Zhang Youdai studied dramaturgy at the Drama School (Central Academy Of Drama / 中央 戏剧 学院) in Beijing, graduating in 1991. In 1993 he started as a DJ at "Beijing Music Radio" (北京 音乐 广播), where he still works as a presenter today . There he presented numerous areas of music previously unknown to Chinese music fans and thus influenced several generations of listeners and musicians. He also moderates several bilingual programs ("All That Jazz" or "Beat Generation") at China Radio International and plays "Suzie Wong" in the Beijing club. Zhang Youdai has been almost the only media representative sent to comment on the annual Grammy Awards music event live on site for Chinese radio stations in recent years. In 2006 and 2007 Zhang Youdai traveled to Germany and took part in the Love Parade and the Popkomm music festival (both as a DJ and as a speaker in lectures). Since 2008 he has been working with the Goethe-Institut Beijing on the series of events for "Electronic Music".
