Zhou Xiaochuan

Zhou Xiaochuan ( Chinese  周小川 , Pinyin Zhōu Xiǎochuān ; * 1948 ) is a Chinese economist and banker. From 2002 to 2018 he was the governor of the People's Bank of China . In December 2010 he was named No. 4 of the 100 Most Influential Thinkers of the Year by the American magazine Foreign Policy . In 2011, he was ranked 14th in Forbes Magazine's annual list of the world's most powerful people .

Life and education

Zhou graduated from Beijing Chemical Engineering University in 1975 . In 1985 he obtained his doctorate from Tsinghua University .

From 1986 to 1989, Zhou was Assistant Minister in the Chinese Ministry of Economic Affairs. From September 1991 to September 1995, Zhou was Vice President of the Bank of China . In February 1998, he accepted the office of President of China Construction Bank . In 2000 he became chairman of the Chinese Securities Regulatory Commission. In December 2002, he was appointed the new governor of China's central bank , the People's Bank of China .
