Zhou Yang

Zhou Yang (* 1908 ; † 1989 ) , 周扬 , was an assistant to Mao Zedong , a Chinese literary theorist and politician.

biography

In 1937 he was director of Yan'n University, director of education in the Shaanxi - Gansu - Ningxia border area around Yan'n, and chairman of the Lu-Xun Academy of Literature and Art.

After 1949 he was deputy director of the propaganda department. He was also the secretary of the party committee and vice minister in the Ministry of Culture under Mao Dun , and the vice chairman of the Chinese Federation for Art and Literature Associations under Guo Moruo . Zhou Yang played an essential role in developing the re-education policy of the population in the 1940s and 1950s. Until the 1960s he was responsible for enforcing the political and cultural guidelines. Between 1942 and 1966, Zhou Yang interpreted Mao Zedong's guidelines and was responsible for re-educating the writers.
