Zhu Junsheng ( Chinese  朱駿 聲  /  朱骏 声 , Pinyin Zhū Jùnshēng , W.-G. Chu Chün-sheng ; 1788–1858), zi : Fengqi ( 豐 芑 , Fēngqǐ ), hao : Yunqian ( 允 倩 , Yǔnqiàn ), from Wu County ( 吳縣 ) in Jiangsu Province was a Chinese phonologist, linguist, and text exegete of the Qing Dynasty . Zhu Junsheng was a student of the eminent scholar Qian Daxin 钱 大 昕 (1728-1804), who was known for his precise insight into the study of archaic phonology and the critical interpretation of classical texts.

Beginning of the first section of Shuowen tongxun dingsheng with the 豐fēng rhyming group, beginning with the phonetic componentsdōng , 同tōng , 彤tōng and 中zhōng

Zhu Junsheng made significant work in the field of phonology with his work for Shuowen jiezi ( Shuowen ), his most famous work, the Shuowen Tongxun ding sheng ( 說文通訓定聲  /  说文通训定声 , Shuowen Tongxun dìngshēng , Shuowen t ' ung-hsün ting-sheng ). It was completed in 1833 and the first printing took place in 1848.

His goal in the rearrangement of the Shuowen in 18 Reim groups was the relationship between the articulation (particularly the vowel) and the importance highlighting. The preface contains his much-cited calculation that the Shuowen contains 364 xiàngxíng象形 characters (3.89 percent of the total); 125 zhǐshì指 事 characters (1.34 percent); 1167 huìyì會意 (12.48 percent); and 7697 xíngshēng形 聲 (82.3 percent).

In comparison with some of his contemporary colleagues, his services have been recognized as follows:

Duan Yucai made several discoveries in accent metrics; Gui Fu was adept at defining principles; Zhu Junsheng clarified the interchangeability of characters, while Wang Yun showed his remarkable achievements in differentiating various forms of Chinese characters. Among the 'Four Masters', Duan Yucai and Zhu Junsheng were undoubtedly the most distinguished. "

He is buried in Yi黟 縣County .

Zhu Kongzhang朱 孔 彰 (1842-1919) was his son. His grandson is the historian Zhu Shizhen 朱 師 轍 (1879–1969).
