Ziad Rahbani

Ziad Rahbani ( Ziyad al-Rahbani , Arabic زياد الرحباني, DMG Ziyād ar-Raḥbānī ; * 1956 ) is a Lebanese composer , pianist , songwriter and playwright .

The son of the singer Fairuz and the composer Assi Rahbani recorded his first songs after studying music and wrote his first musical Sahrieh (evening) in 1973 . Many of his subsequent works became classics of Lebanese theater. His songs are influenced by numerous styles, from classical, jazz, bebop, funk and bossa nova as well as folk songs from the Balkans, Lebanon, Syria and Palestine. He also became known as a film music composer. In many of his works he satirically examines Lebanese politics during and after the civil war .
