Ziekowkiez

The Ziekowkiez is a residential area in the two Berlin districts of Tegel and Borsigwalde in the Reinickendorf district . It is bounded by the streets of Ziekowstraße , Gorkistraße and Altendorfer Weg. There are around 1,100 apartments with around 4,000 residents in this neighborhood (as of the end of 2018). The housing company Vonovia is planning a structural expansion of around 600 apartments by the 2020s and has coined the new name of the neighborhood together with the district office.

The first larger residential buildings in this district were built in the 1950s in connection with the extensive expansion of Tegel. The area belonged to the French sector of Berlin and grew with the increasing importance of Tegel Airport . Individual buildings in the former Berlin suburb such as the house at Ziekowstrasse 161–163 from 1919 or the school building at Ziekowstrasse 80–88 from the years 1957/58 are now under monument protection . The name of the neighborhood is Ziekowstrasse.

In the 1990s, the Vonovia housing company entered the scene as the owner of the property. Together with the Reinickendorf District Office, a development plan was drawn up from 2018, for which the office passed a resolution in spring 2019. The plan provides for the renovation and energetic modernization of the existing housing stock as well as the construction of new residential buildings that will provide space for around 600 tenants. In addition, there is an improvement in the infrastructure, including the establishment of a daycare center , the expansion of the existing elementary school and the establishment of a local supply facility . In addition, new green spaces are being designed and new parking spaces are being created. The expansion work will start around 2021; the construction costs are estimated at 150 million euros .
