Zinzan Valentine Brooke (born February 14, 1965 in Waiuku as Murray Zinzan Brooke) is a former New Zealand rugby union player who played on the positions number eight and winger . He was part of the team that won the first rugby union world championship.

Career

In 58 international matches for the All Blacks, he came up with 89 points, a remarkable 89 points for a striker. He was the captain of the Auckland Blues and won two championships in the Super 12 . He was also active for New Zealand Māori .

Brooke is considered the best number eight to have ever played for New Zealand. The mix of the skills of a striker and the running and kicking strength of a back-team player made them an unpredictable factor in the All Blacks game. At the 1995 World Cup , for example, he scored a drop goal from around 47 meters.

In 1997 he ended his national team career and went to England to the Harlequins . Later he was supposed to train that team, but it was not successful. In 2002 he moved to the second division Coventry to end his career there. Today he still plays for the amateur club Windsor RFC one time or another .

In May 2007, Brooke fell while getting out of a taxi and fell on the back of his head. He had to be taken to a hospital. Since then he has had difficulties articulating what could have been caused by damage to Broca's area .
