The road Zipollenhagen in the urban area Old Town in Stralsund connects the Marienchor road with the Frankenwall and the road Lobshagen. It belongs to the core area of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Historic Old Towns Stralsund and Wismar .

The street was probably named after the Zipolle family who lived here; In the years 1318 and 1341 this family is mentioned several times in the town's documents as the owner of land near the Marienkirche . However, it is also possible that onions were stored here - the word Zipolle means onion in the countryside; the word Hagen in turn also means limit .

Originally there were only booths for the poor in the street ; the booths on the right side of the Frankenwall belonged to the Marienkirche. In 1866 the street was paved , the city granted 300 thalers for this.

One of the houses along Marienstraße is under monument protection (see also the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund ), namely house Zipollenhagen 8 .
