The Cistercian Abbey of La Asunción is since 1977 the monastery of Cistercian nuns in Malaga (Spain).

history

In 1543, the Cistercian convent of San Bernardo was founded in today's Calle San Bernardo el Viejo in Málaga . In the 17th century, the Encarnación Monastery ( Convento de las Recoletas Bernardas de la Santissima Encarnación , "Monastery of the strict St. Bernard Sisters of the Most Holy Incarnation of God") and the Abadía de Santa Ana de Recoletas Bernardas del Císter , also known as Abadía del Císter or Santa Ana . By merging the monasteries of San Bernardo and Encarnación, the newly built monastery of La Asunción ( Monasterio de la Asunción de Nuestra Señora El Atabal , "Assumption of Mary") was founded in 1977 at El Atabal in the Puerto de la Torre district of Málaga . Abbess is currently Mercedes Partido.
