history

The Cistercian convent of Santa Maria del Soccorso (“Maria Hilf”, not to be confused with the monastery of the same name in Caccuri ), founded in the 16th century 40 kilometers south-east of Agrigento in Licata, was expanded and restored in the 17th and 18th centuries. In 1866 all monasteries were dissolved by the Italian state. The Via Badia street also reminds of the monastery.
