The Cistercian Abbey Mariëndaal was 1244-1579 a monastery of Cistercian nuns in Utrecht , Utrecht Province in the Netherlands .

history

A Utrecht canon founded the nunnery Mariendaal (Mariental) at the gates of the city on the Utrechtschen Vecht in Zuilen (now part of Utrecht) in 1544 , which was first settled with sisters from the Cistercian abbey of Saint Servatius , but was soon able to settle the Contribute to the Leeuwenhorst and Nieuw-Mariëndaal monasteries . The monastery was under the supervision of Kamp Monastery . 1579 the monastery in a Protestant was Damenstift of chivalry converted and existed as such until the 1795th
