The Cistercian Abbey of San Severino Marche (also: Santa Caterina ) since 1544, a monastery of Cistercian nuns in San Severino Marche , Province of Macerata , Archdiocese of Camerino-San Severino Marche , in Italy.

history

The Cistercian convent of Santa Caterina, founded in 1544 on the site of the former Benedictine monastery of San Mariano (30 km west of Macerata ), counted 60 choir nuns in the 17th century. The monastery was closed from 1808 to 1821. It was officially dissolved in 1866, but the nuns living there were allowed to continue living in the monastery as long as their number exceeded six. When this number was reached in 1903 and the monastery was sold, the nuns themselves bought the monastery back in 1904 and continued to run it. The current buildings (in Via Castello al Monte ) date from the 18th century. The holy Benedictine monk Illuminatus (around 1000) is laid out in the monastery.

The monastery, which is currently trying to maintain itself through Vietnamese offspring, is under the direct supervision of the Abbot General . The last abbess elected, Stefania Appignanesi, was appointed administrator of the monastery at the end of her term.
