Valduc Cistercian Abbey

The Cistercian Abbey of Valduc was 1231-1797 a monastery of Cistercian nuns in Hamme-Mille, Beauvechain , Walloon Brabant , in Belgium .

history

In 1231, Duke Heinrich II of Brabant founded the nunnery Valduc ("Herzogental"), south of Leuven (a few kilometers from the Cistercian Abbey of Florival ), whose first abbess was his daughter Margarete († 1277). In the course of the advance of the French Revolution , the monastery was closed and demolished in 1797. Only the monastery estate is still standing. Valduc Castle (private) has been located on the site of the Abbess's House since 1867.
