Cistercian convent Llanllyr
The Cistercian monastery Llanllyr (also: Llanllŷr or Taslarn ) was a monastery of the Cistercian women near Taslarn , Ceredigion , in Wales from approx. 1180 to 1537 .
history
Lord Rhys founded the nunnery Virgin Mary (Virgin Mary) northwest of Lampeter near Talsarn around 1180 , which was under the supervision of Strata Florida Abbey and was dissolved in 1537. Remnants were built into a property that existed until 1820, but was then replaced by a Victorian house that still exists today (privately owned). In 2004 archaeological excavations uncovered sparse remains, which suggest rich furnishings, and made it possible to define the outlines and localize a fish pond. The name Llanllyr is today associated with an important landscaped garden and local mineral water production.
