The Cistercian convent of Santa Cruz has been a convent of the Cistercian sisters in Casarrubios del Monte, Toledo province , in Spain since 1634 .

history

The Santa Cruz Monastery ("Holy Cross") in Casarrubios del Monte (40 km southwest of Madrid) was created in 1634 from the collaboration of a donor couple from Casarrubios and the saintly Cistercian María Evangelista Quintero Malfaz from the Santa Ana Monastery in Valladolid , who until her death in 1648 acted as the first superior. In 1860 the monastery took on the convent of the Consuegra monastery , which was dissolved in 1850 and which had spent ten years in the Villarrobledo monastery . In 1880, four nuns from the Madrid convent Piedad Bernarda joined them. In 1964 new monastery buildings were inaugurated (at 1 Calle Monjas ). The facade of the 17th century church was restored in 1985. There are currently 20 nuns living in the monastery.
