Zolotov Island ( English ; Russian Остров Золотова Ostrow Solotowa , German 'Solotow Island' ) is an island off the Ingrid Christensen coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth Land . It is located 1 km south of Hawker Island in the Krok Fjord in the Vestfold Mountains area .
Norwegian cartographers mapped them in 1946 using aerial photographs of the Lars Christensen Expedition in 1936/37 . Further aerial photographs were taken during the US operation Highjump (1946–1947), in 1956 during a Soviet Antarctic expedition and in 1957 and 1958 as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . Russian scientists named them after the Soviet hydrologist A. H. Solotov, who died in Antarctica . The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia translated this designation into English.
