The Zongshen Industrial Group is a group of companies from Chongqing ( People's Republic of China ).

history

The group, founded in 1982 as a repair shop for motorcycles, comprises 30 subsidiaries and joint ventures. This includes, for example, a motorcycle factory in Vietnam. Other sources mention 1992 as the year of foundation.

In early 2003, Zongshen Motorcycle Science & Technology was renamed Zongshen Industrial Group Co., Ltd.

The three main business areas are engines, motorcycles and real estate. Then there are biotechnology and mining. The two large subsidiaries Zongshen Power and Zongshen PEM are listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (001696, since 1997) and on the Toronto Stock Exchange (ZPP), respectively. Sales in 2010 were CNY 2 billion , generated by more than 10,000 employees.

Zongshen Power had sales of CNY 5.17 billion in 2017 .

In 2010, the motorcycle repair shop chain Master Zuo was founded as a joint venture between Zongshen Power and Zongshen PEM.

Motorcycle production and sales

The production of motorcycles began in 1996. Today, motorcycle production is carried out by Zongshen Automobile Industry Co., Ltd. based in Chongqing , People's Republic of China , which belongs to the Canadian subsidiary Zongshen PEM.

Zongshen has had a strategic partnership with the Italian manufacturer Piaggio since 2004 . It manufactures Vespa and Piaggio models and sells the Piaggio brand in China. Zongshen is also a distributor of Harley-Davidson .

In 2009, Zongshen took over the Brazilian two-wheeler manufacturer Kasinski , which ceased operations in 2014.

The company has more than 3,000 employees who produce around 4 million motorcycles per year.

According to the manufacturer, it has registered the brand names Zongshen and Zip star in more than 160 countries . The vehicles are also sold under the brand names Lexmoto (Great Britain), Motorhispania (Spain), M1nsk (Russia and Belarus), Zanella (Argentina), AKT (Colombia), Ryuka (Thailand) and Kasinski and Hyosung (Brazil). Zongshen also owns the Honley brand in Great Britain.

The Zongsheng factory team was founded in 1999 and, according to their own statement, is the first Chinese team to take part in the World Motorcycle Championship (from 2005) .
