Zoological Museum Kiel
The Kiel Zoological Museum is an institution of the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel , the history of which goes back to the 17th century.
Exhibits
The exhibitions show various exhibits on whales, including the only skeleton of a blue whale and a white whale in Germany, an exhibition on the biosystematics of animals, around 300 specimens from European birds, the ecology of butterflies and in 2010 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of Karl August Möbius and the 200th birthday of Wilhelm Behn Exhibits on the history of zoological research in Kiel.
There are also the personal collections of Johann Daniel Major , Johann Christian Fabricius and Christian Rudolph Wilhelm Wiedemann .
The collections of several marine zoological expeditions are kept in the museum, including the Galathea Expedition (1845–1847), the Albatross Expedition (1876–1885), the Plankton Expedition (1889), the Valdivia Expedition (1898–1899) and the Gauss expedition (1901–1903) under Erich von Drygalski .
In cooperation with the Cluster of Excellence Ocean of the Future , the current research topics of the cluster have been presented on the first floor of the Martin-Gropius-Bau on around 70 square meters since June 30, 2011 .
