Zulaikha Abu Risha

Zulaikha Abu Risha Arabic زليخة أبو ريشة, whose full name is Zulaikha Abd ar-Rahman Abu Risha , is a Jordanian writer and journalist .

life and work

Zulaikha Abu Risha studied Arabic literature at Jordan University , as well as administrative science and pedagogy . Her doctoral thesis at the University of Exeter dealt with the subject of the representation of women in Arabic women's literature .

She works as director of the Center for Women's Studies in Amman, founded the feminist publisher al-Warraqat li-d-dirasat wal-buhuth , which she also heads as director, and publishes two magazines. Articles by her are published in a separate section in the Jordanian daily ar-Ra eigeneni . In addition to social and linguistic books with titles such as Language and Gender or The Image of Women in Modern Jordanian Literature , she has published a number of children's books and several volumes of poetry. Zulaikha Abu Risha is a member of the Jordanian Writers' Association. In 1987 she received the University of Jordan Prize for her collection of short stories In Prison .

Zulaikha Abu Risha is an expert in the field of gender studies. She takes a public position on the hijab question and speaks out against the religiously declared, sexist-motivated appropriation of women through clothing. Zulaikha Abu Risha has also performed in Germany and publicly discussed sexism in the Arabic language.

As editor of the book Timeless Tales: folk tales told by Syrian refugees , which appeared in Arabic and English in 2015, she combined her political commitment with her literary expertise.
