To the walnut

The Gasthaus Zum Nussbaum was a traditional tavern at Fischerstraße 21 in Alt-Kölln , which is now a replica in the Nikolaiviertel . Both the original and the current restaurant owes its name to the walnut tree in front of it .
The old inn Zum Nussbaum

The historic Gasthaus Zum Nussbaum was one of the last late medieval gabled houses in Berlin and was located at Fischerstraße 21 on the corner of Köllnische Straße. According to a number above the cellar entrance, it was built in 1507.
Heinrich Zille was a regular at the restaurant to study " his Milljöh ". Claire Waldoff also stopped by here. The painter Otto Nagel was also a guest here. In 1943 the Zum Nussbaum inn was destroyed in an Allied bombing raid.
Heinrich Zille wrote his verses here:
- In the walnut tree to the left of the Molkenmarcht,
- I snored many nights there.
- Father Zille is painting there!

- The landlady is walking around in her shirt,
- The Jäste - they are knille!
The new Gasthaus Zum Nussbaum
In the course of the reconstruction of the old Berlin Nikolaiviertel in the years 1985-1987 on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of Berlin , the planning architect Günter Stahn created a copy of the inn Zum Nussbaum in the Probststrasse on the corner of the church on the site of the war-destroyed provost house of the Nikolaikirche Newly laid out street Am Nussbaum 3 was built and a walnut tree was planted in front of it.
The Gasthaus Zum Nussbaum is a typical old Berlin location in the historical city center , along with the restaurant Zur lastbeispiel .
