Remnants of the inn Zur Goldenen Sonne, the golden sun clearly visible

The Gasthaus Zur Goldenen Sonne is a listed inn in the city of Merseburg in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments it is recorded as a monument with registration number 094 20234 .

history

The building of the inn was probably built in the 16th century. Due to several renovations, hardly anything has been preserved from the original exterior architecture, only the baroque house sign, the golden sun. The inscription of the house sign reads Zur Güldenen Sonne AD 1731 . It is therefore assumed that the building was converted in 1731. The building was owned by Volksbank Mainz until 2010, when it was acquired by a real estate company from Berlin . The inn, which was last used as a hotel , has been empty for several years and is noticeably deteriorating. In the course of demolition work in the vicinity, the western part of the building was also demolished in 2015.

The whereabouts of a bronze plaque that announced the famous guests is unknown.
