To the Holy Family (Kamen)
The Catholic parish church of the Holy Family is a listed church building on the church square in Kamen , in the Unna district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
History and architecture
The building was built by August Menken from 1901 to 1902 as a plastered building with corner blocks. The tall, slender north tower deliberately forms a contrast to the tower of the Protestant church at the other end of the square. The apses of the south-facing, neo-Gothic transept basilica stand on a polygonal floor plan.
Inside, rib vaults rest on partially cantilevered services . Ridge vaults were drawn into the lower aisles . The west gallery stands on a three-way arc . The capitals are decorated with striking foliage, head consoles and masks.
Furnishing
- The neo-Gothic carved furnishings consist of the altars and the pulpit lid with openwork fial attachments .
- Several baroque figures of saints complete the picture.
- The organ was installed in 1934 by Orgelbau Johannes Klais .
- In 1989, the chiming of chilled iron bells had to be stopped. The Petit & Edelbrock foundry supplied four new bronze bells with the tone sequence d′-f′-g′-a ′, which sound together with the preserved bronze b ′ bell from 1902.
