Zurab Pololikashvili ( Georgian ზურაბ პოლოლიკაშვილი English Zurab Pololikashvili ; born January 12, 1977 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian politician and diplomat and has been Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) since 2018 .

education

Zurab Pololikashvili studied banking at the Georgian Technical University in Tbilisi from 1994 to 1998 and graduated with a bachelor's degree. From 2008 to 2009 he completed a Global Senior Management Program (GSMP) at the Instituto de Empresa of the IE Business School in Madrid .

Career

Pololikashvili worked in the financial sector for several years, was the manager of the international business for the TBC bank, was director of the central office from 2001 to 2005, and from 2010 to 2011 he was vice president of the TBC Group. From 2005 to 2006 Pololikaschiwili was Georgia's deputy foreign minister. From 2006 to 2009 he was the ambassador of his country in Spain , which he also represented in Morocco , Algeria and Andorra .

From 2009 to 2010 he was Minister for Economic Development. The focus of his work was promoting the development of the tourism and transport sector. Marketing and an improvement in the infrastructure have increased the number of international tourists in Georgia from 1.5 million (2009) to over 2.8 million (2011).

He later became the permanent representative of his country in the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). In September 2017 he was elected Secretary General to succeed Taleb Rifai by the General Assembly of the UNWTO . He took up his three-year term on January 1, 2018.

Private

From 2001 to 2011 Pololikashvili was Chairman of the Board of Dinamo Tbilisi , the leading professional football club in Georgia. Pololikaschiwili is married and has three children.
