The Zurich Renegades were founded in 1983 and are the oldest American football club in Switzerland still in existence . With seven national championships, the Renegades are among the most successful teams in Switzerland. In the coming 2020 season they will play again in the top national league, the NLA, after their promotion.

The Zurich Renegades mainly rely on local players, including their own offspring. The Zurich Renegades also have the oldest and most successful U19 junior team with 8 titles and the most successful U16 sophomore team in Switzerland with 2 titles.

In the 2016 season, the Renegades Seniors team was relegated to the NLB. In the 2019 season, the Zurich team made it back to the top division in Switzerland.
