Two-wheel mechatronics technician
Two-wheel mechanic (since November 1, 2014 gradual changeover from the previous two-wheel mechanic ) is a recognized training occupation in Germany.
The renaming from mechanic to mechatronic takes account of the increasingly complex electrical and electronic equipment on two-wheelers. Electronic control units on motorcycles and electrically assisted bicycles ( pedelecs ) represent the biggest changes here.
Germany
The two-wheeled mechatronics technician undergoes a 3½-year training in industry or craft, where he can specialize in the fields of bicycle technology or motorcycle technology.
Specializing in bicycle technology
As two-wheel mechatronics specialists specializing in bicycle technology, you deal with non-motorized two-wheelers or those with internal combustion engines Saxonette as well as electrically powered auxiliary motors (e-bikes / pedelecs) that are equipped with electric motors , and if necessary also manufacture complete vehicles from individual components.
Specializing in motorcycle technology
As two-wheel mechatronics technicians specializing in motorcycle technology, you deal with motorized two-wheelers and, in addition to the tasks mentioned, test engines - usually combustion engines and electric motor-driven ones - and their subsystems, maintain them and repair them if necessary.
Bicycle mechanic
The school part of the two-year training to become a bicycle mechanic usually takes place together with the first two years of training as a two-wheel mechatronics technician. After passing the final exam, the prospective bicycle fitter can begin his training as a two-wheel mechatronics technician specializing in bicycle technology.
