The old turning shop is a three-aisled hall of the Speldorf railway repair shop in Mülheim an der Ruhr . The industrial building erected in 1874 with a floor area of ​​over 2,000 square meters has a wooden roof construction that is unique in Germany . As a monument of industrial culture it stands since 1991 under monument protection . In 2008, a sponsoring association was founded for the long-term maintenance of the building, which will be used as the “House of Associations”.

The hall was last used as a turning shop by the Deutsche Bundesbahn as part of the former repair shop in Mülheim-Speldorf .

After years of no agreement on the restoration and use of the industrial monument and the hall therefore suffered further damage to the structure , a sponsoring association was founded in 2008 . This non-profit project has set itself the goal of permanently preserving the "old turning shop" for posterity and making it suitable for non-profit use. The plan is to develop a “house of clubs” with a meeting and education center that is attractive for the region , a versatile exhibition hall and a technical museum in the building close to the city center.

Funds from the monuments are to the district government has provided € 200,000 in prospect. The Center for Civic Engagement e. V. (CBE) as well as many companies and private individuals the project Alte Dreherei.

The existing facilities of the former depot are a current part of the " Route of Industrial Culture - Railways in the Revier ".
