#Beste is a best-of - album of the German rapper Sido . The album was released on December 14, 2012 and comprises 36 songs from the musician's career to date as well as 4 or 5 previously unreleased songs, depending on the version.
background
At the end of October 2012, a best of Sidos album entitled #Beste was announced for the first time. The album was originally announced for December 7, 2012. However, the publication had to be postponed at short notice due to technical problems when printing the cover illustrations.
Sido personally stated in interviews that at this point in his career he had not yet planned a best-of album. The contract of his move from Aggro Berlin to Universal , however, provided for the joint release of the Blutzbrüdaz soundtrack and a best-of album.

34 of the tracks on #Beste have already been published on Sido albums or other samplers . Although Sido has been recording songs in the formations Alles ist die Sekt and Die Sekt since 1998 , #Beste includes almost exclusively songs from his career as a solo artist, which began in 2003. As a reason for this, Sido stated in interviews that he only wanted to depict the latter with #Beste . The only exception is the album's opening title, Westberlin , which was released in 2001 on the Royal TS album Alles ist die Sekt . According to Sido's presentation, he attaches particular importance to this as the first “cross-Berlin song” of his career, which justifies the inclusion in the track list of #Beste .
Sido emphasized several times in interviews that he made the song selection for #Beste personally, taking particular account of “personal favorites”. The assfuck song , which is not to be found at #Beste despite its immense prominence and commercial success , was by no means omitted because of a "supposedly dirty attitude", but the song, after it was still included in a first preselection, would not have been in Sido's "personal dream of the overall picture" added by #Beste .
Of the songs not previously included on other phonograms, two, 2010 and Der Chef , had been released as free tracks some time before the release of #Beste by Sido. In 2010 , on December 31, 2010 , Sido, together with an arrest warrant, drew a personal conclusion about the albums by other German rap artists published in the year that gave the title and, as it later turned out, initiated his reconciliation with his long-time rival Bushido . Sido published the title Der Chef in early 2012.
The last four tracks on the second CD as well as the track Ich will mein Berlin zurück ( I want my Berlin back) , which is exclusively on the iTunes version , are songs that were previously completely unreleased.
In the title Pictures in the Head , which also functions as a single, Sido looks back on his previous life, while in Until I am no longer he emphasizes that he will not retire as an artist in the future either, but rather want to continue his career until his death. The joint song with bass Sultan Hengzt Meine Jordans deals with the personal meaning of the Nike brand shoe models of the same name for both artists as well as hip-hop culture in general. Since flirting with material values, as is also practiced in the previously unpublished title Nobody , would be a core aspect of hip-hop culture anyway, but the "Jordans" for Sido personally are the "sanctuary" of this culture, he and Bass have Sultan Hengzt invented the title. In the bonus title I want my Berlin back, backed by a dubstep beat , Sido expresses his displeasure with the gentrification of his hometown Berlin and the hipster culture that is particularly evident there .

Sido's long-time companion and collaboration partner B-Tight is represented most frequently with three guest appearances. Harris and Kitty Kat had two holdings each. In the tracks recorded especially for #Beste Meine Jordans and Nobody are also accompanied by Bass Sultan Hengzt or MoTrip and Chiddy Bang . In addition, Adel Tawil , Alpa Gun , Haftbefehl , J-Luv , Reen , MJ, Olli Banjo , Peter Fox , Samy Deluxe , Shizoe and Smif-N-Wessun as well as Sido's former Aggro Berlin companions are Fler , G-Hot and Tony D represented at #Beste . According to Sidos, a possible removal of a guest contribution by Fler had never been an issue for him at the time of publication, despite the personal animosities between the two artists due to their shared past and the quality of their joint titles.

The cover of the album #Beste shows the mask that Sido wore for many years during his time at Aggro Berlin and thus made it his trademark. This is made up of many small portrait photos of fans of the artist according to the mosaic principle . Sido had previously given his followers the opportunity to send them to him by email so that they could be processed into the cover of #Beste.

Internet and TV promotion
In the last week before the release of the album #Beste , the album became the focus of a specially held special "Aggro Alarm: Sido" on aggro.tv, the YouTube channel of Sido's former record company Aggro Berlin . In the course of this, a six-part video interview with the journalist and former Royal Bunker label boss Marcus Staiger , a video for the joint album title with Bass Sultan Hengzt Meine was filmed under the direction of Aggro Berlin founder Specter Jordans as well as a special edition of the popular format Shut up for the title Until I'm No Longer published. In addition, aggro.tv published a making of for the video Meine Jordans as well as the title Ich will mein Berlin zurück, which is only available on the iTunes version of #Beste . The title Bilder im Kopf was published as a download single on November 30, 2012 and managed to enter the German single charts at number 87 in the 52nd week of 2012 . In the following weeks, and especially after it was released on CD, the single rose to number 5. In Austria, after entering the chart at number 38, it was enough for a top position at number 10 in the fourth week of sales. In Switzerland, Bilder im Kopf reached 22nd place.

Reviews
#Best has received mixed reviews. Danni Fromm from the e-zine laut.de rated the album with around 2 out of 5 possible points and criticized in particular the excessive selection of songs and the fact that Sido's early works were excluded. In the verdict on the newly released titles, it was said that “of the four new tracks, only 'Bilder im Kopf' with its lush, soulful touch [remains] in the memory - and finally [invites] to the nostalgic look back”, while each of the three remaining tracks was rated neutrally at best and Nobody was explicitly criticized for using auto-tune .
#Beste was voted “Release of the Month December 2012” by the users of the meinrap.de website .
Chart success
With #Beste, Sido entered the German album charts at number 20 and in his sixth week of the chart made it to number 7. On January 4, 2013, it entered Austria in 9th place. In the next few weeks, #Beste was placed 7th and 5th, before #Beste achieved its highest ranking in its fourth week of sales with 3rd place. In Switzerland , #Beste entered the album charts at number 27 on January 6, 2013 and peaked at number 20 two weeks later. In November 2013, the album reached gold status in Germany for over 100,000 sales and for over 10,000 sales Gold status in Austria.
