Continuous series: 5-year plan of the GDR (V) |
The postage stamp year 1957 of the Deutsche Post of the German Democratic Republic comprises 41 special stamps, only slightly fewer values than in 1956, when 48 values were brought to the counter.
The GDR Post also issued 18 definitive stamps , of which 7 values with denominations of up to 5 DM were specifically intended as airmail stamps , which, however, could also be used for normal franking purposes without restriction.
In September the second stamp booklet of the GDR Post was issued for 2 DM. It contained three booklet sheets with a total of 6 values of 5 pounds , 7 pounds 10 and 5 pounds 20 of the 5-year plan series. The new edition of the definitive stamps and the stamp booklet with the 5-year plan motifs was due to the new watermark paper used by the securities printing company .
A total of 48 motifs were issued. A surcharge of between 5 and 20 pfennigs had to be paid for 5 special stamps .
Since 1955 , a value, and almost all were in most special stamp sets usually block and from 1962 appeared little sheet issues in significantly reduced edition printed. These so-called values in small circulation were, apart from a delivery limited to two items per postal customer, on the first day of issue and on the first day after the expiry of the collection period, only with a collector's pass at the post office counters or via a direct purchase from the dispatch point of the Deutsche Post available in Berlin . In this brand year, the circulation of these values was 1,100,000 copies.
From this year onwards, paper with the watermark No. 3 ( GDR around Kreuzblume ) was used throughout .
The validity of the issues mostly ended on March 31, 1959; only the issue for the murdered resistance fighters had postage paid for a year longer. The postal use of the 5-year plan definitive stamps, with the exception of the value of 20 Pf (May 31, 1962), did not end until December 31, 1962. The 7 airmail stamps, on the other hand, could be used until October 2, 1990, the end of the GDR and theirs Post, to be used.
particularities
This stamp year continued with the edition series on the Leipzig trade fairs (two values each), on the Peace Tour and on the paintings in the Dresden Gemäldegalerie that were returned from the USSR. The construction of concentration camp memorials was again recognized with two values for the Ravensbrück women's concentration camp and, for the first time, three values for resistance fighters murdered during the Nazi era . The latter edition, with Ernst Thälmann, Rudolf Breitscheid and Paul Schneider, symbolically unites the different political camps of the resistance; However, the bourgeois camp was excluded here, and this for a long time in the issuing policy of the GDR Post. Otherwise, political issues were treated sparingly. There was only one value for the 4th World Trade Union Congress and two values for the 40th anniversary of the October Revolution.
A striking number of personalities' anniversaries or their deaths were taken into account in the brand image. So one thought u. a. the birthdays of Friedrich Fröbel, Heinrich Hertz and Clara Zetkin and the first days of death of Bertolt Brecht, Günter Ramin and Hermann Abendroth. The sentence "Famous Personalities", which hit the counters on June 7th, with which, in addition to Hertz, Joachim Jungius and Leonhard Euler were also honored, although from a different designer, again the motif design of the issue "250 Years of the Academy of Sciences" by 1950 on. Issues on nature conservation, the World Red Cross Day and the International Geophysical Year rounded off the brand year.
