The postage stamp year 1969 of the Deutsche Post of the German Democratic Republic comprised 89  special stamps , three stamp blocks with one special stamp each, a miniature sheet with six special stamps and two definitive stamps . A total of 100 motifs were issued.

The largest format ever issued in the GDR had a stamp on the theme of 20 years of the GDR , it only appeared as a stamp block. This stamp had dimensions of approximately 8.6 × 7.6 cm. On the same occasion, the other two blocks and another 14 special stamps were issued.

Although the currency of the GDR had been called the Mark of the German Democratic Republic (M) since January 1, 1968 , new definitive stamps with this designation were only printed this year. Until then, the same motif with the indication of MDN (Mark of the German Central Bank) was in use.

All postage stamp issues since 1964 as well as the 2- mark values ​​of the definitive series President Wilhelm Pieck and the definitive series of State Council Chairman Walter Ulbricht , published since 1961, originally had unlimited postage validity . With the reunification after October 2, 1990, all brands lost their validity.
