The 1966 stamps issued by Deutsche Post der GDR were issued in 1966 by Deutsche Post der GDR . As in the previous year , a block edition came to the counter, 6 stamps were printed together, and the second miniature sheet edition of the GDR Post appeared.

The year included a total of 77  special stamps , 1 block and 1 miniature sheet with a total of 85 motifs. The number of issues increased slightly compared to the previous year (1965: 69 special stamps, 4 of them in two stamp blocks). A surcharge of 5 or 10 pfennigs (0.30 marks in total ) had to be paid for 5 special stamps . At the end of the year, a stamp booklet with 5 and 10 Pf values ​​from the Walter Ulbricht definitive stamp series with a total value of 2 marks was issued, which was slightly different from the 1962 edition . The face value of the issues (including the stamp booklet) was 21.35 marks.

Since 1955 , a value, and almost all were in most special stamp sets usually block and from 1962 appeared little sheet issues in significantly reduced edition printed. These so-called values ​​in small circulation were, apart from a delivery limited to two items per postal customer, on the first day of issue and on the first day after the expiry of the collection period, only with a collector's pass at the post office counters or via a direct purchase from the dispatch point of the Deutsche Post available in Berlin . In this brand year, the circulation of these values ​​was between 1,300,000 and 1,500,000 copies. The pad and sheetlet were printed in a slightly increased edition of 2 million pieces.

Three issues, 10 years of the NVA , international memorials and memorials, and blood donation systems , were still printed on paper with the watermark No. 3 ( GDR around Kreuzblume ); for all other brands, watermarkless paper was used.

All postage stamp issues since 1964 as well as the 2- mark values ​​of the definitive series President Wilhelm Pieck and the definitive series of State Council Chairman Walter Ulbricht , published since 1961, originally had unlimited postage validity . With the reunification after October 2, 1990, all brands lost their validity.

From 1966 onwards, the stamps came back to the counter at the Leipziger Messe as two-value sets. The cosmos motifs , which have been part of the GDR Post's issuance program for the first time since 1961, only received a value for the soft moon landing of Luna 9 this year as access. Four sports issues with a total of 12 values ​​paid tribute to world championships in luge , parachuting , canoe racing and weightlifting held in the GDR, which once again emphasized the preferred position that competitive sports held in the GDR. To honor the cultural life of the Sorbian minority in the GDR philatelically, two values ​​were published in memory of the publisher and scientist Jan Arnošt Smoler, who was born in 1816 . Then the 900th anniversary of the Wartburg, on which Luther translated the Bible into German, was the occasion for a three-valued sentence. The arch with cultural-historical topics rounded off an edition with works of art from the Vorderasiatisches Museum in Berlin.

Subject collectors were u. a. with the issues IGA Erfurt , folk costumes in the GDR (II) , ornamental fish and protected domestic plants . For fairy tale lovers, a miniature sheet with motifs from Grimm's fairy tale Tischlein deck dich came to the counter in December 1966 and opened a series of miniature sheets with fairy tale motifs , which initially ran until 1978 and which had two followers in 1984 and 1985 . The popular miniature Christmas sheet itself - designed with a wide variety of Christmas motifs from 1979 onwards - was to prove to be a constant in the issuing program of the Deutsche Post of the GDR up to the last complete year in 1989 . Only in 1969 and 1970 did the miniature fairy tale come to the post office counter in March.

Multi-value editions were published on the 20th anniversary of the founding of the SED, on the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War, which began 30 years ago, and on the 10th anniversary of the founding of the NVA, whereby the political self-image of the GDR was also reflected in the brand image. This also applied to the only block of the brand year on the 50th anniversary of the Reich Conference of the Spartakus Group. After the value “Help for Vietnam” in the previous year, the first stamp of the series “ Invincible Vietnam ”, which ran with interruptions until 1979 , was published , which documented the GDR's idea of ​​solidarity with the Southeast Asian country fighting in the Vietnam War , also in material terms, as the auction proceeds was intended for relief supplies. The series “ International memorials and memorials ”, started in 1963 and running until 1989 with mostly one value each, was continued . The postage rates of 25 and, from 1974 , 35 pfennigs, which were almost exclusively used, were used to frank postcards and simple letters in international traffic, so that the anti-fascist state doctrine of the GDR was to be demonstrated abroad by post.

Due to the change of the GDR currency denomination to "MDN" (Mark of the German Central Bank) the booklet of the Ulbricht permanent series with 8 values ​​of 5 Pfennig and 16 values ​​of 10 Pfennig Pf-values ​​now with the cover imprint "2, - MDN" and changed advertising printing.
