Clete Donald "Don" Johnson Jr. (born January 30, 1948 in Atlanta , Georgia ) is an American politician . Between 1993 and 1995 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Clete Johnson attended the public schools in Franklin County . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Georgia and his admission to the bar in 1973, he began to work in his new profession. In the same year he worked as an attorney for the Tax Committee of the US House of Representatives. Between 1973 and 1977 he served in the United States Air Force Legal Department . In 1978 he studied at the London School of Economics .

Politically, Johnson became a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1987 and 1993 he was a member of the Georgia Senate . In the 1992 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the tenth constituency of Georgia , where he succeeded Doug Barnard on January 3, 1993 . Since he lost to Charlie Norwood in the following elections , he was only able to hold one term in Congress until January 3, 1995 .

After retiring from the US House of Representatives, Johnson served with the rank of ambassador to the United States Sales Representative's Office from 1998 to 2000 . He has been with the University of Georgia Law School since 2004. There he is department director of the Dean Rusk Center for International, Comparative and Graduate Legal Studies .
