David Addison Reese

David Addison Reese (born March 3, 1794 in Charlotte , North Carolina , †  December 16, 1871 in Auburn , Alabama ) was an American politician . Between 1853 and 1855 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

David Reese attended public schools in his home country. At times he also received private lessons. After a subsequent medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and his approval as a doctor, he began to work in Elberton in his new profession. He later moved his practice and residence to Monticello . At the same time he embarked on a political career.

Between 1829 and 1836, Reese was a member of the Georgia Senate on several occasions . It was then that he joined the Whig Party . For 25 years he was a curator at the University of Georgia in Athens . In the 1852 congressional election , Reese was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the seventh constituency of Georgia , where he succeeded Alexander H. Stephens on March 4, 1853 . By March 3, 1855, he completed a term in Congress . This was shaped by the tensions in the run-up to the civil war .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, David Reese moved to Auburn, Alabama, where he practiced as a doctor again. He died there on December 16, 1871.
