Tinsley W. Rucker

Tinsley White Rucker (born March 24, 1848 in Farm Hill , Elbert County , Georgia , †  November 18, 1926 in Athens , Georgia) was an American politician . In 1917 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Tinsley Rucker attended his home public schools as well as Princeton College and the Georgia Military Academy in Marietta . Since March 1864 he took part in the civil war as a soldier in the Army of the Confederate States . After studying law at the School of Law at the University of Georgia and being admitted to the bar in 1871, he began working in this profession in Athens. Between 1893 and 1912 he was assistant federal attorney for the northern part of Georgia, based in Atlanta . In 1912 he returned to Athens, where he practiced as a lawyer again.

Politically, Rucker was a member of the Democratic Party . After the death of Congressman Samuel Joelah Tribble , he was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the by-election due for the eighth seat of Georgia , where he took up his new mandate on January 11, 1917. By March 3, 1917 he ended the legislature of his predecessor there. After leaving the US House of Representatives, Rucker returned to work as a lawyer. He died in Athens on November 18, 1926.
