John Thomas "Tom" Graves Jr. (born February 3, 1970 in Saint Petersburg , Florida ) is an American politician . Since June 2010 he has represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Tom Graves attended Cass High School in Cartersville, Georgia. He then studied at the University of Georgia in Athens . After graduation, Graves was a private businessman.

Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . Between 2002 and 2010 he was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives . Following the resignation of Congressman Nathan Deal , who was preparing his candidacy for governor of Georgia, Graves was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the by-election for the ninth seat of his state . In the regular congressional elections of 2010 , he was confirmed unopposed. Since January 3, 2011, he was able to complete a new term of office in Congress. In 2012, he was re-elected to Congress in the fourteenth constituency of his state. Graves was a member of the Homeland Security Committee and the Transport and Infrastructure Committee, as well as several sub-committees. He later sat on the United States House Committee on Appropriations and on some of its sub-committees. He was re-elected in 2014. Since he was re-elected in 2018, he is also a member of the 116th United States Congress . His current term runs until January 3, 2020. He will not run for election to the 117th United States Congress.

Tom Graves is married and has three children. The family lives privately in Ranger . He is a member of the Belmont Baptist Church in Calhoun, Georgia.
