Thomas E. Winn

Thomas Elisha Winn (born May 21, 1839 in Athens , Georgia , †  June 5, 1925 in Atlanta , Georgia) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1893 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thomas Winn attended the Carrollton Masonic Institute and then until 1860 the Emory and Henry College in Emory ( Virginia ). After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1861, he began to work in Alpharetta in his new profession. For a short time he also worked as a public prosecutor. Yet in 1861 he joined during the Civil War, the army of the Confederation of where he rose to the end of the war up to lieutenant colonel.

After the war, Winn also worked in agriculture from 1868. Between 1876 and 1890 he was school commissioner in Gwinnett County . Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional election of 1890 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Georgia , where he succeeded Allen D. Candler on March 4, 1891 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1892, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1893 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Thomas Winn withdrew from politics. In the following years he worked again in agriculture. He died in Atlanta on June 5, 1925.
