Attractions

  • The baroque parish church was built on the initiative of Louis XIV and consecrated on August 25, 1689. It is dedicated to Saint Louis of France.
  • The place is particularly known for the mountain fortress built here between 1728 and 1850 . The complex is the largest of its kind in Europe and consists of a series of individual fortifications connected by stairs and paths. The connecting stairs have a total of over 4000 steps. The facility was built by the fortress builder Ignazio Giuseppe Bertola Roveda to ward off a possible French invasion of Piedmont along the Val Chisone .
