history
The first written mention of Pulchra Rada (the ancient name of San Mauro) dates back to May 4th 991. On this day, Anselmo, the ruler of Montferrat at that time, gave the order to rebuild the monastery of the Benedictine monks , which had been destroyed by a Saracen invasion.
