The Donauwörth-Genderkingen airfield is the special airfield of the Swabian city ​​of Donauwörth and the municipality of Genderkingen . It is run by the Motorflugsportgruppe Donauwörth-Genderkingen e. V. operated.

location

The airfield is located about six kilometers southeast of the historic town center of Donauwörth and two kilometers west of Genderkingen in the Eisenmähder parcel at an altitude of 399  m above sea level. NN . A large part of the runway is in the area of Asbach-Bäumenheim to the south . The Lech flows three kilometers east and the Danube one and a half kilometers north .

In terms of nature, it is located in the Donauried ; to the north the area rises to the Franconian Jura , south to the perennials .

history

Construction of the Donauwörth-Genderkingen airfield began in 1967 and an aircraft hangar and restaurant were built. The tower and gas station were added in the early 1970s . The runway was partially paved in 1982 and received an asphalt strip of 530 × 15 m. A runway lighting was installed in 1991 and in subsequent years, the airport facilities were constantly expanded and modernized. The runway was expanded to 700 × 20 m in 2007.

The airfield is approved for all types of aircraft up to 2000 kg MTOW and is mostly in operation from 9:00 a.m. to sunset. The operator is the Motorflugsportgruppe Donauwörth-Genderkingen e. V.

There is a tower, eight hangars and a restaurant at the airfield. There are 4 types of fuel (AVGAS, MOGAS, Jet A1 and Diesel) and aero-oil as well as rental bikes.

incident

On January 27, 2013, a Cessna F-150 aircraft crashed during a touchdown exercise . It came off the tarmac and overturned in the snow-covered hard shoulder. The machine was badly damaged, the pilot got away with the horror.

Events

The two-day "Horizon Airmeet" has been taking place on the airfield since 2009. It has developed into the European model flight show highlight and always has over 10,000 visitors. From September 14 to 18, 2018, the airfield was the location of the JetPower Event for the first time - an international air show with a trade fair for model jet aircraft. The traditional airfield festival takes place at the end of September every year.

A municipal road opens up the airfield via the Genderkingen – Donauwörth district road to federal road 16 . The public transport do not operate the airport regularly, but it can be a Paratransit be requested. At the Donauwörth train station and at the Genderkingen stop on the Ingolstadt – Neuoffingen railway line there are boarding options for passenger rail transport. The airfield can also be reached via a cycle path from Donauwörth and Genderkingen.
