The special landing site in Neumarkt / Opf. is the airfield of the Upper Palatinate city of Neumarkt . It is supported by the Flugsportvereinigung Neumarkt e. V. operated.
geography
The airfield is located one kilometer northwest of the historic town center of Neumarkt in the Chorespan parcel at an altitude of 425 m above sea level. NN . Immediately to the east is the Neumarkt Clinic in the Upper Palatinate with its own helipad , as well as the Ludwig-Danube-Main Canal .
In terms of natural space , the Pölliger Höhe , located to the north, forms part of the European main watershed , to the west the terrain slopes down to the Franconian Lake District and to the east it rises to the Franconian Jura .
history
Aviation was already in operation in Neumarkt before the Second World War , at that time on the Buchberg between Stauf and Sengenthal . However, in 1945 Germans were banned from flying by the Allied occupying power .
- In 1950, shortly after the flight ban was lifted, the Flugsportvereinigung Neumarkt e. V. founded.
- In 1959, the new, urban site on the Pöllinger Höhe was occupied and officially approved as a public airfield in 1960 .
In the early 1980s the tower and a second hall were built and the runway was paved with a strip of asphalt.
Airfield and equipment
The airfield is approved for aircraft up to 2000 kg MTOW and for helicopters up to 3000 kg and has no regular operating hours. The holder of the airfield is the Flugsportvereinigung Neumarkt e. V.
It is regularly used by the Bavarian air ambulance team, and in clear weather, airliners with a maximum take-off weight of up to five tons are allowed to land at Neumarkt airfield with a special permit. It is also used regularly for reconnaissance flights on the risk of forest fires over the Bavarian State Forests in the summer months.
There are several farm buildings, a tower , a hangar, a small casino and an adjacent restaurant. There is no refueling facility for stopovers.
Incidents
In the early 1990s to the 2010s, a number of flight accidents, some of which were fatal, with ultralight aircraft and motor kites occurred in the nearby district of Neumarkt. Since then, such aircraft have no longer been permitted at Neumarkt Airport.
traffic
A municipal road opens up the airfield via the B 299 to the federal motorway 3 , which runs five kilometers to the north . The public transport do not operate the airfield directly, but several pick for city buses are located a few hundred meters away.
