The Vilsbiburg airfield is the airfield of the Lower Bavarian city ​​of Vilsbiburg in the Landshut district . It is run by the air sports club Vilsbiburg e. V. operated.

The airfield is located almost three kilometers south of the historic center of Vilsbiburg at an altitude of 441  m above sea level. NN in the Vilstal .

history

Aviation has been in operation in Vilsbiburg since 1934. After the end of the Second World War , flight operations were no longer possible due to the flight ban imposed by the Allied occupying powers . When the flight ban was lifted in 1951, it was possible to go back to private aviation in Germany and the club was re-established in 1951/1952. The association has existed in its current form since 1965.

Airfield and equipment

The airfield is a special airfield for all types of aircraft up to 2000 kg and helicopters up to 3000 kg maximum take-off weight (MTOW) and has no regular operating times. The owner and operator of the airfield is the Luftsportverein Vilsbiburg e. V. Landing is only possible after prior notification ( PPR ). The place carries the ICAO code EDMP.

There is a farm building with a ground-level flight control center (frequency 118.060 MHz), a hangar and the clubhouse.

Events

For tax and commercial reasons, sightseeing flights are not offered, but there are opportunities to fly at cost directly from the pilots on request. The traditional indoor festival takes place on the last weekend in August.

Incidents

  • On April 8, 2017, an ultralight aircraft of the type WD Flugzeug Leichtbau D4BK made an emergency landing in Vilsbiburg. The aircraft hit hard several times, being severely damaged by a rupture of the fuselage tube. The pilot was unharmed.
