Herman Rarebell (born November 18, 1949 as Hermann Erbel in Hüttersdorf , Saarland ) is a German drummer .

Life

From 1965 Herman Rarebell played drums with the bands The Mastermen, from 1968 with The Fuggs Blues and RS Rindfleisch, with whom he a. a. performed in clubs of the US military across Germany.

He received his training in drums and piano at the Saarbrücken University of Music . In 1971 Rarebell went to England and played in a few bands and as a studio musician. In 1977 he joined the Scorpions and recorded several albums with them. He was also the composer and author of several Scorpions titles, including the text of Rock You Like a Hurricane . Subsequently he went on tours with them until 1994, which took him to many countries in Europe, Asia, North and South America. In 1981 his first solo album was released. With musician friends he recorded his second solo album in California in 1986, entitled Herman ze German & Friends . Herman Rarebell is also active as a producer and composer. As a member of the Scorpions, he received the Echo and the World Music Award and received over 100 gold and platinum records.

In 1996 Rarebell left the Scorpions and founded the record company Monaco Records with Prince Albert in his then main residence in Monaco ; In 2001 the company dissolved again.

Rarebell formed the "Drum Legends" trio with Pete York and Charly Antolini and played several concerts with this line-up and released a live album in 2005. Together with Ronnie Wood and Roland Muri, Rarebell is the initiator of the Art meets Music project.

Rarebell was invited to the performance of the Scorpions at the Wacken Open Air 2006 and played with his old band for the first time since the Face the Heat tour in 1993/94. He can be heard on the track No one Like You , among others . The concert was released on DVD. In 2010 he signed a record deal with Dark Star Records and released the CD Herman ze German. Rarebell was on the world tour Get Your Sting and Blackout of his old band Scorpions in North America as a guest at some concerts and played the song No one Like You there . He also appeared as a guest musician at several MSG concerts in 2010 in North America and in London , England. Rare Bell is the drummer on the album Temple of Rock of Michael Schenker . Together with Schenker, Francis Buchholz u. a. he toured internationally with the Temple of Rock project between 2011 and 2017 . In 2016 Rarebell founded the band Rock Wolves with Michael Voss and Stephan "Gudze" Hinz. Her debut album was released at the end of October 2016. He gives other isolated concerts with his own band and in 2019 again with the Drum Legends.

Herman Rarebell has been an honorary professor at the DeTao Masters Academy in Beijing since 2012 .

Herman Rarebell is the narrator / reader ("Uncle Herman") of the audio books in the children's book series Schnatter and Lieschen by his wife Claudia Raab. Together they read books to children at events.

Rarebell lived in London and Hanover , 1984-85 mainly in Los Angeles County and from September 1985 to 2003 mainly in Monaco. Since 2004 he has lived with his wife, saxophonist and author Claudia Raab, in Planegg near Munich , and since 2008 in Brighton .

Equipment

Herman Rarebell initially played drums from the Premier brand with the Scorpions , later from the Ludwig company , each as a double bass drum set with two hanging toms and two floor toms .
