Jürgen Rosenthal (born July 28, 1949 in Rosengarten ) is a German drummer . He became known in particular through his membership in the Scorpions and Eloy .

At the age of seven, Rosenthal received classical lessons in recorder and violin . When he was around 15 he finally found his instrument, the drums , which he learned self-taught . He founded his first band, The Generations , in 1965. In 1968 he met his future colleague Klaus-Peter Matziol and founded the band "Morrison Gulf" with him. When Uli Jon Roth's drummer Fritz Randow switched to Eloy in the early 1970s , he received the offer to take his position and was able to establish the band name “Dawn Road” there. Dawn Road finally merged with the Scorpions , which at that time only consisted of Klaus Meine and Rudolf Schenker . Together they recorded the second Scorpions album “Fly to the Rainbow” in Musicland Munich and in Studio Maschen.

After his military service , Jürgen Rosenthal actually wanted to get back into the Scorpions, but received a visit from Frank Bornemann and Klaus-Peter Matziol, who were looking for a drummer for the new Eloy formation. There he could let his creativity run free and delivered from 1976 to 1979 next to the drumming much of concepts as well as the majority of the texts for the Eloy studio albums.

Jürgen Rosenthal is known to many fans as the most popular and influential Eloy drummer.

After separating from Eloy, he followed the project "Ego on the Rocks" with his band colleague Detlev Schmidtchen , for which three releases were initially planned. Ego protested against any Eloy reference and finally had to finance the first production, "Acid in Wounderland", themselves. The album flopped, further funds were not available, not least because of a legal dispute with the former Eloy colleagues, so that they finally separated again in 1982. This was followed by participation in solo projects by other musicians, particularly from the Eloy environment.
