Italy's footballer of the year

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The title Footballer of the Year is chosen in various elections in Italy .

The best Serie A player has been honored annually since 1976 by the weekly football magazine Guerin Sportivo and receives the Guerin d'Oro . The calculations are based on the ratings of the most important Italian sports magazines after the respective season games. All Serie A footballers, regardless of their nationality, are available for selection.

From 1997 to 2010 the Italian football players association Associazione Italiana Calciatori (AIC) also awarded prizes in various categories ( Oscar del Calcio ). The awards were given at the beginning of the next year retrospectively for the past calendar year. Among other things, the best Italian player in Serie A and the best foreign player in Serie A were chosen. One of these players also received the title of Best Series A Player .

Since 2011, the best Serie A player has been chosen at the so-called Gran Galà del Calcio after players, coaches, referees and journalists have made their choice. The event can be seen as the successor to the Oscar del Calcio .
